The 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is based on a fully boxed high strength steel frame that was created with hydroforming technology, with the cab’s frame also constructed from high strength steel as well. The Silverado 1500 has been offered with a 6-speed 6L80 transmission since the last generation, however in 2015 Chevrolet also added the 8-speed 8L90 automatic transmission that offers wider gear ratios with more closely spaced gears that has resulted in faster shifts, quicker acceleration, and improved fuel economy. The Silverado 1500 is available with either a 4.3L EcoTec3 V6, a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8, or the monstrous 6.2L EcoTec3 V8, which make 285 HP, 355 HP, and 420 HP respectively.
